چکیده

OBJECTIVE—Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are characterized by an 98 and 65% loss of pancreatic -cells, respectively. Efforts to reverse either form of diabetes increasingly focus on the possibility of promoting -cell replacement and/or regeneration. Islet transplantation has been explored, but it does not provide long-term insulin independence. One possible source of -cell regeneration is hematopoietic stem cells. In mice, there are conflicting data as to whether hematopoietic stem cells contribute to pancreatic -cells. We sought to establish whether hematopoietic stem cells (derived from adult donors) transdifferentiate into pancreatic -cells in adult humans.

Hematopoietic stem cells derived from adult donors are not a source of pancreatic beta-cells in adult nondiabetic humans.

The characterization of CD marker profile of breast milk-derived stem cell

Background  The mammary gland in humans is a dynamic organ that undergoes significant developmental changes during pregnancy, lactation, and involution. Stem cells derived from human breast milk possess the adult stem cell-like characteristics such as self-renewal, proliferative and differentiate potential. This source of stem cells avoids invasive procedures and the ethical controversy of emb...

Comparison of Characteristics of Human Amniotic Membrane and Human Adipose Tissue Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

BACKGROUND Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are ideal candidates for treatment of diseases. Amniotic membranes are an inexpensive source of MSCs (AM-MSC) without any donor site morbidity in cell therapy. Adipose tissue derived stem cells (ASCs) are also suitable cells for cell therapy. There is discrepancy in CD271 expression among MSCs from different sources. In this study, the characteristics...

Facts about Stem Cells and Importance of Them

Stem cells are undifferentiated biological cells that can differentiate into specialized cells and can divide (through mitosis) to produce more stem cells. They are found in multicellular organisms. In mammals, there are two broad types of stem cells: embryonic stem cells, which are isolated from the inner cell mass of blastocysts, and adult stem cells, which are found in various tissues. In ad...

Inm-9: Global Approach toward Banking Cord Blood Stem Cells

Umbilical cord blood is the baby's blood left over in the umbilical cord and placenta after a baby is delivered and the cord is cut. Cord blood has all of the features of regular blood, but it is also a rich source of hematopoietic stem cells. Hematopoietic stem cells are unspecialized cells that produce all blood cells. These include: • Platelets, which are needed for blood clotting • Red...
